Immune System Components Flashcards
(12 cards)
First to the site, most abundant as WBC. They are phagocytes, and are a component of pus.
Neutrophils
Phagocytes which recruit other immune cells, and show the antigens to the helper T cell
Macrophages
Recognize & attack the infected cells and cancer cells. Releases enzymes which damage the membranes of these harmful cells.
Natural Killer Cells
Ingest and break antigens into fragments, sending the information to the Helper T Cell.
Dendritic cells
Rich with histamine. Most prevalent cell issue with allergies. Recruits other cells and located in connective tissue.
Mast Cells
Aids with the suppression or regulation of immune responses. Promotes activation of B and T cells.
Helper T cell
Makes antibodies against antigens. Develops into memory B cells and plasma cells. Made in bone marrow.
B cell
Antibody molecules which bind to the target antigen and initiate its destruction or tag it for others to kill.
Plasma cell
Matures in the thymus and turns into Helper T cells, cytotoxic, memory, regulatory, and Killer T cells
T cell
Attacks the antigens and infected cells, and kills the cell by making a hole and injecting enzymes into it.
Killer T cell
Replicates when exposed to an invading pathogen. Searches for a specific antigen and creates an efficient response
Memory B cell
Can recognize bacteria, cancer, and viruses they have seen before. When they see it the second time, they divide fast.
