Information Processing:Decision Making Flashcards
(4 cards)
Define selective attention
The process of filtering out irrelevant information from the display
What are strategies to develop selective attention
-high levels of experience
-learning to focus on the stimulus
-mental practice
-Motivation & Arousal Control
Describe the DCR process
- Detection-The performer picks up relevant information from the environment (display) using their senses (sight, hearing, touch, etc.) and selective attention to filter out irrelevant stimuli.
- Comparison-The performer compares the information they have detected with previous experiences stored in their long-term memory.
3.Recognition- The performer recognises the situation and identifies an appropriate response based on their comparison with past experiences.
What are the roles of the translatory mechanisms
-Helps to convert information so that decisions can be made
-information from the senses are filtered, then adapted into an image that can be sent to the memory for comparison
-uses past experiences so that information received can be linked and sent to the memory system
-actions are stored in the memory in the form of motor programmes and translatory mechanisms uses coded information to retrieve the appropriate motor programme.
