Instrument flight rule Flashcards
(7 cards)
- What is IFR?
- IFR is flight by reference to instruments and navigational aids
- Minimum weather requirements to T/O via IFR:
- Visibility is at least 1 Statute Mile or 1500 m
- Cloud ceiling*
- Minimum weather requirements for Approach
Follow published minimums
Minimum Altitude for IFR Over High Terrain or Mountainous Areas
2000 ft. Above the highest obstacle
& 8 km. Away
Minimum Altitude for IFR ELSEWHERE except Over High Terrain or Mountainous Areas
1000 ft. Above the highest obstacle & 8 km. Away
IFR Cruising Altitude
- Half Moon Principle
- magnetic track Starting 3,000 ft AGL.
Heading 0-179 - odd 1000
Heading 180-359 - even 1000
IFR Cruising Altitudes
For flight levels above 18000ft MSL to and below FL290 with a magnetic course of:
0-179 - odd flight levels (FL190, FL210, FL230. ETC)
180-359 - even flight levels (FL200, FL 220, FL240, ETC)
For flights above FL290 with a magnetic course of:
0° to 179°
Any flight level, at 4,000 foot intervals, beginning at and including FL 290 (FL 330, FL 370, FL 450 etc.)
180° to 359°
Any flight level at 4,000 foot intervals, beginning at and including FL 310 (FL 350, FL 390, FL 470 etc.)
