Question 1

When adding integers with the same sign

Answer 1

add the numbers. The answer will have the same
sign as the original numbers.
2 + 6 = 8
-9 + (-3) = -12

Question 2

When adding integers with different signs

Answer 2

subtract the numbers. The answer will have the
sign of the number with the larger absolute value.
-8 + 10 = 2
1 + (-7) = -6

Question 3

When subtracting integers

Answer 3

it’s the same as adding the opposite. Then use the same rules as adding integers.
–9 − 4 = –9 + (–4)
–2 − (–7) = –2 + 7

Question 4

When multiplying or dividing two integers with
the same sign,

Answer 4

the answer will be positive.
–4 × (–10) = 40
15 ÷ 3 = 5

Question 5

When multiplying or dividing two integers with
different signs,

Answer 5

the answer will be negative.
–3 × 7 = –21
54 ÷ (–9) = –6
