Anatomy is the Study of
Form
Physiology is the Study of
Function
Design
Made for purpose, Camera, laptop
Design-oid
Seems like it was made for a purpose but it is the result of random change subject to natural selection, heart, eyes
Simple Objects
Formed naturally by laws of physics
Basic Restraint of Anatomical Structures
Only components that already exsist can be modified, humans cant grow wings out of no where
Evolution Definition
A change in the number of times specific genes that code for specific characteristics occur within an interbreeding population
What evolves in Evolution
populations, not individuals
Things change in evolution not because
things want or need them too
Darwin observed 2 main things
organisms have more offspring that can survive to adulthood and offspring are not identical, there is variation
Vestigial Structures are
Structures in the body that seem to serve no use/no longer have a function. Tailbone, wisdom teeth, ect.
Why do we still have vestigial structures
They are causing no hard so no evolutionary need to get rid of them
4 influences to structure
Genetics, Physics, Size, and Environment
Rate of exchange is proportional to
a cells volume
If a cell is too big
it will die, cant support itself
Are lots of little cells or one big cell perfered
lots of little cells
Diffusion distance drives
cell size and multicellularity
All genetic traits in humans
vary from one individual to another
Variation is due to
different alleles at each gene loci, interactions of genotypes with the environment, and developmental errors due to mutations/environment, lifestyle, and society
Inheritable variation drives
evolution
Cline is
a gradual change of character or feature In a species as long as geographically spread populations can interbreed
long term physiological responses to enviorment
are evolutionary change, making sweatglands
Short-term physiological responses to environment
altitude acclimation
