What are serialization and deserialization?

A

Serialization is a mechanism of converting the state of an object into a byte stream. Deserialization is the reverse process where the byte stream is used to recreate the actual Java object in memory.

Why are serialization and deserialization useful?

A

to transform/recreate data objects to/from a portable format. Serialization enables us to save the state of an object and recreate the object in a new location. Serialization encompasses both the storage of the object and exchange of data.
