Why is God’s oneness the most important characteristic?

A
  • Teaches strict monotheism
  • Have a container holding the shema with a mezuah where they kiss their fingers and touch it
  • This expresses their love and respect for God and his commandments, reminding them of his oneness
  • Bind tefillin to their foreheads and arms when they pray every morning
  • Everything is unified because they are the creation of God
  • All of Gods creation is an opportunity to come face to face with God
  • Teaches the unity of creation and the need for people to bring unity to society

Why is God the Law-Giver important?

A
  • The Torah teaches God gave laws to help people look after the earth the way he wanted
  • Gave laws to Noah, Abraham and Moses to give to the people in order to keep their side of the agreement
  • Forms the Halakhah which gives meaning and purpose
  • Part of the covenant with Moses
  • Shows God cares about his creation and humans which gives Jews security and helps their relationship with creation

  • The good are rewarded and the evil are punished
  • God will treat everyone fairly, making sure justice reigns
