A
  • The latin word Magisterium translates to “Teaching Authority”
  • The Pope and Bishops safeguard the Church’s teachings and are considered the successors of the apostles. This is known as Apostolic Succession.

What is the importance of the Magisterium?

  • Has supreme authority because it is guided by the Pope and the Holy Spirit (infallible)
  • Helps Catholics with issues that were not in the Bible (euthanasia, gay marriage etc.)
  • Keeps the Catholic Church up to date by dealing with modern day issues
  • Provides clear guidelines on how to behave and what to believe
