JVD 2018 #1 - Dental Radiography of the Horse Flashcards

1
Q

What is this device and what is it used for?

A

offset speculum, allows lateralization of the mandibles to get clearer V/D images of maxillary and mandibular teeth without superimposition.

The maxillary and mandibular bite plates slide laterally relative to one another.

Q

What view is pictured below, and what is it best for imaging?

A

right dorsal to Left ventral oblique (30 deg).

good for imaging apices of left maxillary teeth, and isolating the 2 buccal roots without the palatal (projected below)

open mouth view helps to remove mandibular cheek teeth

Q

What is this view and what is it best for isolating?

What modification is made in young horses?

A
  • right 45 ventral - left dorsal oblique
  • good for isolating apices of cheek teeth, projects palatal root dorsal to the buccal roots
  • make it steeper (60deg) in young horses due to cheek teeth are longer

Q

Name this view and what is it for highlighting?

A

right 45 ventral to left dorsal oblique.

Higlight apices of left mandibular cheek teeth.

Note same angle as last view, but aimed differently, so you get different teeth.

Q

What are the standard views for cheek teeth in the horse and what are they for imaging?

A
  • Lateral - sinuses, overall impression
  • left and right dorsal 30 oblique - highlight apices of maxillary teeth, cast palatal root down and highlight buccal roots
  • left and right dorsal 10 oblique - highlight the crowns of mandibular cheek teeth
  • left and right ventral 45 oblique (maxillary) - highlight apices of maxillary teeth and cast palatal root dorsally to visualize it
  • left and right ventral 45 oblique (mandibular) highlight apices of mandibular cheek teeth
  • Standard V/D - highlight sinuses
  • Offset V/D’s - visualize occlusal view of crowns with less superimposition
