Knee Joint - Exam 4 Flashcards
(10 cards)
knee joint type
synovial hinge joint
knee joint function
flexion/extension with a small amount of rotation with flexion
meniscus
lateral and medical portions
helps support unstable bone articulation
articular surface is uneven and incongruent
generally will not heal when torn - removed by surgery
lateral collateral ligament (LCL)
lateral epicondyle of femur to fibula
does NOT attach to lateral meniscus
medial collateral ligament (MCL)
medial epicondyle of femur to tibia
attaches to medial meniscus, gets torn with meniscus during contact sports
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
prevents posterior rolling of femur
weaker than PCL
anterior drawer test
ACL
pull anteriorly on tibia, should not move 6mm+
posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
prevents anterior rolling of femur
stronger than ACL
posterior drawer test
PCL
push posteriorly on tibia, should not move 6mm+
patellar/quadriceps tendon
anterior portion of knee
contains sesamoid patellar bone
