Q

what are the properties of a weft knit?

A

-The simplest knit
-can be produced by either hand or machine knitting
-very stretchy
-distorts easily when washed
-drapes softly and is figure hugging
-does not crease easily
-fabric traps air- makes it a very good insulator
-snags, ladders and unravels easily
-has a definite right and wrong side

Q

what are the properties of warp knit yarns?

A

-more complex structure
-less stretchy- gives a firmer fabric
-does not ladder or unravel so can be cut and sewn more easily
-faster than weft knitting
-can be made using a machine only
-cheapest and fastest method of fabric production using yarns
-wider variety of knits can be produced

13
Q

what are fully fashioned panels?

A

Fashioning is the knitting of garment parts to their exact shapes by increasing and decreasing stitches directly on the machine or by hand knitting.
They are shaped so that they can be sewn directly into garments without cutting. Welts, neckbands and pockets are knitted integrally.

16
Q

what are the properties of polyester fleece?

A

-brushed, volumous appearance
-warm to wear
-the brushed fibres on the surface of the fabric trap warm air which make it much more insulating
-wicks moisture away from the body
-cost effective-cheaper as it is a synthetic fibre
-not absorbent- dries quickly (it is a synthetic fibre)
-lighter compared to traditional fleece

17
Q

what is fully fashioning used for?

A

used in the manufacture of high quality garments
