L14 - Extraocular Muscles Flashcards
(13 cards)
What are the 2 functions of extra ocular muscles
- Eye movement
- Lid closure
What is the spiral of tillaux
An imaginary line connecting the insertions of the eyes recti muscles
What are the 6 types of extra ocular muscles
- Superior recuts
- Superior oblique
- Lateral recuts
- Inferior oblique
- Inferior recuts
- Medial rectus
What are the 6 types of eye movement
- Lateral rotation (Abduction)
- Medial rotation (Adduction)
- Elevation
- Depression
- Intortion (medial rotation of the eye)
- Extortion (lateral rotation of the eye)
What is the superior rectus muscle
Is located at the common tendinous ring at the apex of the orbit and is involved in elevation adduction and intortion
What is the inferior rectus muscle
Is located at the common tendinous ring at the apex of the orbit and is involved in depression adduction and extortion
What is the lateral rectus muscle
Is located at the common tendinous ring at the apex of the orbit and is involved in abduction
What is the medial rectus muscle
Is located at the common tendinous ring at the apex of the orbit and is involved in adduction
What is the superior oblique muscle
Located at the lesser wing above the optical canal and is involved in intortion depression and abduction
What is the trochlea oculi
A fibrous sling which serves as a hook for the superior oblique muscle
What is the inferior oblique muscle
Located at the floor of the orbit lateral to the lacrimal groove and is involved in elevation abduction and extortion
What is the musculus levator palpebrae superioris
Muscle which raises and retracts the superior eye lid
