Action
Enhances excretion of sodium, chloride & potassium by direct action @ ascending limb of henle produces diuresis decrease BP
Rx for edema associated with CHF

Dose
Initially 20-80 mg/dose may increase by 20-40 mg/dose q6-8 hrs

Side effects
Increase frequency & volume of urination
Lightheaded, dizzy, Nausea, heartburn, abd cramps, diahrrea, constipation, electrolyte disturbance

Contraindications
Anuria
Deafness
Ringing in ears
Vertigo

GI tract
Metabolized liver
Excreted in urine
