(40 cards)
What is puberty?
physical changes to the body that make a person able to reproduce
what is menopause?
when a woman stops having menstrual periods and can no longer get pregnant naturally
what is classic conditioning?
learning by associating one thing with another
What is associative learning?
learning that two events go together (thunder follows lighting)
what is unconditional stimulus?
something that naturally triggers a response
What is a unconditioned response?
a natural reaction to a stimulus
What is conditioned response?
a learned reaction to a stimulus
What is conditioned stimulus?
something that starts to trigger a response after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus
What is an acquisition?
The initial stage of learning when a response us first established
What is trace conditioning?
learning happens when the conditioned stimulus is presented and then removed before the unconditioned stimulus are presented at the same
What is simultaneous conditioning?
The conditioned stimulus and unconditioned stimulus are presented at the same time
What is backward conditioning?
The unconditioned stimulus is presented before the conditioned stimulus
What is extinction?
when a learned response gradually disappears
What is a spontaneous recovery?
the sudden reappearance of a learned response after it had been gone a while
What is generalization?
Responding the same way to similar stimuli
What is discrimination?
learning to respond only to specific stimuli, not similar ones
what is Higher-order conditioning?
pairing a new stimulus with a conditioned one to create another layer of learning
What are taste aversions?
learning to avoid a food that made you sick
What is one-trial learning?
learning that happens after just one experience
what is biological preparedness?
we are naturally wired to learn certain things easily
What is association?
Linking two events or concepts in the mind
What is operant conditioning?
Learning based on rewards or punishments
What is the law of effect?
behaviors followed by positive outcomes are more likely to happen again
What is reinforcement?
strengthening a behavior by giving a reward
