What did Bandura claim
Bandura claimed that classical and operant conditioning could not explain all human behaviour
What is one assumption of SLT
SLT suggests learning is through observing and imitating a role model
What is modelling
The process of imitating behaviour of a role model. The model is showing the observer a specific behaviour to imitate
What is identification
Identification is where an individual associates themself with a role model either due to status and similarity
What is vicarious reinforcement?
If a person observes someone being rewarded for a particular behaviour then it increases the chance that the observer will imitate the behaviour to recieve the same reward
What is imitation?
The term to describe when an observer sees behaviour from a role model and copies it
What is the 2nd feature of SLT
the meditational processes
What are the 4 mediational processes
Attention, retention, reproduction and motivation
What does Bandura state about attention
Learning occurs when they attend to a models behaviour e.g children must observe what the model is doing or saying in order to reproduce the models behaviour
What does bandura stae about retention?
To reproduce the modelled behaviour they must store the memory of this behaviour in LTM allowing it to be remembered. This is more likely if the information is memorable
What is reproduction
Individuals must have the skills and capabilities to be confident they could reproduce the models behaviour, this is more likely if behaviour is easy to replicate
What is motivation or reinforcement
An individual may be motivated to imitate the behaviour because they have seen someone else be rewarded or because they identify with the model
