Corporation
a business entity that legally exists separately from its owners. the owners of a corporation are shareholders.

the set of key values, beliefs, understandings and norms shared by members of an organization

three attractors for helping deciding what to do to navigate the unwritten rules
motivators - things an individual wants
enabler - the people who can give them what they want
triggers - things that need to be satisfied to make the enabler provide the motivator

culture is the glue that holds the organization together. successful companies balance culture and performance.
Four types of corporate culture
involvement, adaptability, achievement, consistency
Involvement culture
high value on meeting the needs of employees
internal focus on the involvement and participation of employees
coopoeration
Adaptability culture
values that support the company’s ability to rapidly detect, interpret and translate signals from the environment into new behavior responses.
requires fast response and high-risk decision making
achievement culture
result-oriented culture thet values competitiveness, aggressiveness, personal initiative, cost cutting and willingness to work long and hard to achieve results.
consistency culture
values and rewards a methodical, rational, orderly way of doing things.
internal focus and a consistency orientation for a stable environment

lowest in the hierarchy
do not allow interaction and feedback. can be misunderstood
organizational communication
flow downward, upward and horizontally. managers are responsible for this
formal communication channels

outside formally authorized channels. coexist with these but may skip hierarchical levels.
2 types: personal network and grapevine
grape vine
informal person to person communication network of employees that is not officially sanctioned by the organization.
open communication climate
Means sharing all types of information throughout the organization, across functional and hierarchal boundaries
