Transactional leadership
Involves an exchange process that may result in follower compliance with leader requests but it is not likely to generate enthusiasm and commitment to task and objectives
Ex. middle management, military, nil coaches
Transformational leadership
the followers feel trust, admiration, loyalty and respect towards the leader. Motivated to do more than they are expected to do.
Ex. CEO, Martin Luther King Jr.
Visionary leadership
Transforming an organizational culture in line with the leader’s vision of the organizations future.
Transform organizational cultures in existing organizations and arrive at results that many didn’t believe to be possible.
Their vision usually inspires changes in adjacent business industries.
Ex. Steve Jobs
Charismatic leadership
Arouses during crises, the periods of major uncertainty and turbulence, and a leader naturally emerges to take charge rather than is appointed.
Do not lead with authority, but with charisma and personality. They lead people without offering instant goals.
Ex. politics, religion, entertainemnt
Ethical leadership
Refers to leaders who make an effort to influence the ethical behavior of others.
Ex, CEO to junior managers, all size organizations.
Leaders who are concerned with how numbers are achieved as well as the organization’s impact on employees and the environment
Types of followers
alienated follower, conformist, pragmatic survivor, passive follower, effective follower
Types of power
Legitimate power, reward power, coercive power, expert power, referent power
