Alma 40: Resurrection: Know the six points about resurrection taught by Amulek and Alma: Alma 11:42-43; 40:2, 4-5, 18. What do the BofM authors not teach that we do know by revelation? What was Joseph Smith studying when he received this revelation? What two sections of the D&C relate to degrees of glory and resurrection? Know the order of the resurrection as revealed in D&C 88: the four resurrections and the two phases of the morning of the first resurrection.

Alma 40:6-14: Know the definition and designation of these terms: Spirit World, Spirit Prison, Hell in regards to the place where all go between death and resurrection.
spirit world= where you wait for judgement; temporary state for wicked who are bound for spirit prison
spirit prison= where wicked go after death
hell= temporary location in spirit world
40:13-14: Know this BofM definition of hell. Where is it? D&C 76:43-45: Who are the people who go to permanent hell? Where does Brigham Young teach the Spirit World is?
good and evil spirits go to the spirit world; waiting for judgment; evil go to permanent hell
42: Justice and Mercy of God: 42:13-16: Be able to explain how the laws of justice and mercy interact in the plan of salvation. How is this point relevant to Corianton?
alma’s son: corianton; atonement/plan of salvation harmonizes the law of justice and mercy
43:46-47: Know the two principles of the Law of War. How is this similar to D& 98? 45: 45:1-17 Alma’s prophecy.
fighting for the right reasons: defend your family, homes; alma’s prophecy: they’re teaming up and gonna team up and come attack us; destruction of nephites at the end of the BOM: alma tells his prophecy to Helaman
7. Alma 43-51: 43-44: Zoramite War. Who are Zoramites and Amalekites? Know the cause of the war (43:4-12), leaders—Moroni and Zerahemnah, preparations, result and lesson.
zoramites: tear off of the nephites
amalekites: MOST WICKED and murdery; more than lamanites group of lamanites, descendants of amalek
- zoramites became lamanites
- led by zarahemnah
-amalekites went to the zoramites
lesson: captain Moroni’s example!!
45:18-19: What happened to Alma? 45:23: What happened among Nephites?
alma blesses his sons and the earth for the rigtheous; cursed the land for the wicked; nephites start having dissension
46-50: The First Amalickiahite War: 46: 46:4-10: Know the cause of the war, the leaders—Moroni and Amalickiah, the results and the lessons.
alma dissapears and they assume he dies: he is gone; Helaman is in charge: goes to declare the word unto his people; dissension: they grew proud and did not want to listen to Helaman anymore
46:12-27: Know the Title of Liberty and the token of the covenant and prophecy of Jacob 46:35 What happened to anyone who would not covenant to support freedom?
Title of Liberty: used by captain Moroni to rally rhetorical nephite; preserve family, freedom, faith; fastened on the end of a pole; they would be cut off by god and be destroyed
47: How did Amalickiah become king of the Lamanites?
lying and deceit; assasinated previous leaders: Ammoron
48:7-17: Know the Nephite preparation both spiritual and temporal. Know why Captain Moroni was a great leader.

50: Know Teancum, Nephihah, Pahoran, Morianton. What happens to each?
teancum: nephite leader against moriantum; dies, nephihah: chief judge; transitions to coriantamer, Pahoran: chief judge, Morianton: nephite leader
50:17-24: Know Mormon’s conclusion. Who was Morianton, what did he attempt to do and what happened to him?
mormon reflects on the pride of the nephites; moriantion sought to take over because he was dissatisfied; they fled to Moroni for help because Morianton started to fight them; attempted to beat up his maid servant and got caught red handed
51: Who were the king-men and the freemen and what did they attempt to do? What happened to the king-men who refused to defend the country? What happened to Amalickiah?
king-men: lamanites
freemen: nephites
In Mormon 51, the king-men refused to fight and defend their country against the Lamanites. This refusal to join the Nephite defense led to their destruction in some cases.
Amalickiah manipulated the internal political strife and worked to create division within the Nephite government, but his life ultimately ended when he was assassinated.
