Lecture Unit 2 Ch 15 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Somatic nervous system
Both sensory and motor neurons. Sensory = touch, pain, temperature, sight, hearing, taste, smell
Motor = innervate skeletal muscles
Autonomic nervous system
Receives input from sensory receptors located in organs, blood vessels, muscles
What are the 2 motor neurons in the autonomic motor pathway
Preganglionic neuron and postganglionic neuron
Two divisions of autonomic nervous system
Sympathetic (flight or fight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest)
Describe sympathetic nervous system
increased alertness and metabolism, ready for emergency
Describe parasympathetic nervous system
slows down most body activity
Preganglionic
cell body in the brain or spinal cord
Postganglionic
cell body and dendrites located in autonomic ganglion
2 categories of Autonomic neurons
cholinergic or adrenergic
What do cholinergic neurons release
acetylcholine
What do cholinergic receptors include
nicotinic receptors and muscarinic receptors
What do adrenergic neurons release
norepinephrine (noradrenalin)
a1
sits in heart, excites (flight or fight)
a2
sits in SI, inhibits (relaxing)
B1
exciting, betablocker (calms down BP or heart rate)
B2
relaxing
What does autonomic reflexes control
heart rate, bp,
What is the reflex arc composed of
receptor, sensory neuron, integrating center, motor neurons and effector
autonomic dysreflexia
abnormal, overreaction to stimulation in involuntary (autonomic) nervous system
