The penumbra is the partially shaded outer region of the shadow cast by an opaque object.
What is the umbra?
The umbra is the fully shaded inner region of a shadow cast by an opaque object
What is the difference between the penumbra and umbra?
The penumbra is a partially shaded outer region, while the umbra is a fully shaded inner region. They are BOTH shadows.
When does a Solar Eclipse occur?
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon blocks the Sun’s rays from shining on the Earth. It happens during the day with a new moon.
