What does P.P.P stand for?
Presentation
Practice
Production
What is the presentation stage?
Present your key words/ideas/phrases. Usually this is around 10-12 words. When introduce each key word follow a set structure.
1. elicit (search from answer from students)
2. model correct pronunciation (do this 3-4 times, class must silent in order for them to be listening)
3. Choral (class will all say this together, I will walk around them and listen to make sure pronunciation is correct)
4. Random (randomly pick 4-5 children to say the word)
I will then go and write this word on the board. As I add words I will consistently recap the ones already on board.
What are the five ways can show key words?
- flashcards
- draw on board
- mime
- realia (real life objects)
- multi-media i.e. sounds
What is the practice stage?
This is where take 1-2 key words and put into dialogue. Aim for 4 lines of flowing conversation incorporating the key words, but only teach lines 1 and 2 to begin with. Important that have props/characters to teach this so students can visually see how dialogue works. Teach it following the set stages of Teacher/Teacher, Teacher/Student, Student/Teacher, Student/Student. I will then write it on board with character names, getting the class involved as I do this.
What is the production stage?
This is the stage in which you use communicative activities. These reinforce the topic and maximise student talk time. In this stage the teacher is facilitator. Potential CA activities: worksheet, spelling game, role play
