  1. GT = written word and its grammar structures superior to the spoken word
  2. AL = speaking and listening most important, the spoken word is superior
  3. CLT = equal emphasis on all four macro skills, communication primary within this methodology

Importance of grammar in methodologies

  1. GT = students memorise all grammar structures/paradigms
  2. AL = students work out grammar for themselves
  3. CLT = Grammar is taught/picked up on a teachers discretion alongside visual aids to help explain grammar

Context in methodologies

A
  1. GT = teacher will introduce a text for students to translate and analyse
  2. AL = context is key, there is a set dialogue
  3. CLT = context is still necessary but dialogue is authentic. Students give the notion (the idea) and have to create the function (the purpose)
