Lower Extremity Regions and Osteology Flashcards
(45 cards)
regions of lower extremity
gluteal, thigh, leg, foot, hip, knee, and ankle
Gluteal region
includes part of bony pelvis and associated soft tissue
Extends from iliac crest to gluteal fold
Thigh region
contains femur and associated soft tissue
Leg region
contains tibia and fibula and associated soft tissue
Foot region
includes the tarsal bones, metatarsals, phalanges, and associated soft tissues
Hip region
part of bony pelvis, proximal femur, and associated soft tissue
Knee region
distal femur, proximal tibia, patella, and associated soft structures
Ankle region
distal tibia and fibula, proximal talus, and associated soft tissue
pelvis
formed by 2 hip bones (3 fused bones) and midline sacrum (5 fused bones)
Where to hip bones unite?
unite anteriorly at pubic symphysis
unite posteriorly with sacrum at sacroiliac joint
Hip bone made up of___
Ilium, ischium, and pubis
Where to bones of hip bone unite to make one hip bone?
acetabulum
sacrum
articulates with ileum of right and left hip bones to form sacroiliac joints
Proximal femur
Femoral head and neck, greater and lesser trochanters, and intertrochanteric line
Femoral head
fits deep within acetabulum
Femoral neck
common site of fracture
Greater trochanter
large lateral bony prominence located at junction of femoral neck and shaft
Lesser teochanter
medial bony prominence at the junction of the femoral neck and shaft
Intertrochanteric line
located anteriorly at the point where the femoral neck meets the femoral shaft
Femur body
Fovea, intertrochanteric crest, gluteal tuberosity, pectineal line
Fovea
attachment site of the ligament of the head of femur (ligamentum teres)
Intertrochanteric crest
located posteriorly at the point where the femoral neck meets the femoral shaft
Gluteal tuberosity
ridge of bone between greater trochanter and linea apera
Pectineal line
ridge of bone between lesser trochanter and linea aspera
