Lung Meridian Flashcards
(40 cards)
Where does the lung primary channel travel from the stomach?
Down to the large intestine before returning upward to pass through the cardiac orifice and traverse the diaphragm and penetrating the lung. Then ascend to throat region
Where does the lung primary channel originate?
Middle jiao - in the region of the stomach
Where does the lung channel emerge?
At LU-1 on the lateral side of the chest, 6 cun from the midline, in the first intercostal space
What two channels does the lung channel tun parallel to?
The heart & pericardium channels
Where does the lung channel terminate?
The radial side of the thumbnail at LU-11 (Jing-well & wood point of LU)
What is the Front-Mu point of the lung?
LU-1
What is the meeting point of the LU & SP channels?
LU-1
With what zangfu does the lung primary channel connect?
Stomach, large intestine, lung
what is the luo-connecting point of the lung channel?
LU-7 (separates from primary channel and spreads through the thenar eminence)
Describe the lung divergent channel
Diverges from LU primary channel at axilla, passing anterior to Ht channel in chest. Connects with lung & disperses in LI
A branch ascend from LU, emerges at supraclavicular fossa, ascend across throat & converges with LI channel
In 6 channel theory, what circuit is the lung channel part of? What is its paired zang organ?
Hand Taiyin; spleen
What are the five principle functions of the lungs?
- Govern Qi & control respiration
- Control disseminating & descending
- Regulating the water passages
- Controlling the skin & body hair
- Opening to the nose
Name examples of rebelling lung Qi
Coughing, dysponea, wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath
What is the lung sinew channel?
Where does it originate?
Originates at LU-11 & ascends to bind at thenar eminence
Follows radial pulse along flexor aspect of forearm to bind at elbow
Antero-lateral aspect of upper arm to emerge in region of ST-12 & travel laterally to shoulder
Pathological symptoms of the lung sinew channel
Cramping & pain along the course of the channel
Severe: tension along costal region with spitting of blood, accumulation of lumps below R lateral costal region
LU-1: location & action
Middle Palace
1st intercostal space, 6 cun from midline, 1 cun inferior to LU-2
- disseminates & descends LU Qi & alleviates coughing & wheezing
- transforms phlegm, clears heat, regulates water passages
- descends stomach Qi
What does the Spiritual Pivot nickname the lung?
What does it name as it’s primary job?
The canopy of the 5 zang & 6 fu
The lung receives clear Qi from heaven via respiration. The lungs descend this Qi to the kidneys
LU-2 location & action
Cloud Gate
6 cun lateral to midline in the center of the delto-pectoral triangle
- clears lung heat & disseminates & descends lung Qi
- dispels agitation & fullness
LU-3 location & action
Palace of Heaven
3 cun inferior to axillary fold on antero- lateral aspect of upper arm in depression btw lateral border of biceps & shaft of humerus (6 cun superior to LU-5)
- clears lung heat & descends lung Qi
- cools blood & stops bleeding
- calms the corporeal soul (Po)
LU-4 location & action
Clasping the White
Antero-lateral aspect of upper arm, 4 cun inferior to axillary fold in depression btw biceps & shaft of humerus (5 cun above LU-5)
- descends lung Qi
- regulates Qi & blood in the chest
LU-5 location & action
(He-Sea & water point of LU)
(Cubit Marsh)
On cubical crease of elbow in depression @ radial side of bicep tendon
- clears heat from the lung & descends rebellious Qi
- regulates water passages
- activates the channel
- relaxes the sinews & alleviates pain
What is the he-sea point of the Lung channel?
What element is this associated with?
LU-5; water
LU-6 location & action
(XI-Cleft pt of LU channel)
(Maximum Opening)
Flexor aspect of forearm; 7 cun proximal to LU-9 on line connecting LU-9 & LU-5 (1 cun proximal to midline btw two pts)
- disseminates & descends lung Qi
- clears hear & moistens the lung
- clears heat & stops bleeding
- moderates acute conditions
What is the Xi-Cleft point on the lung channel?
LU-6; Xi-cleft points indicated for acute conditions, yin Xi-cleft points also indicated for blood disorders (i.e. bleeding from the lung)
