M1.4 — 7 lumbar plexopathies, spinal nerve injury Flashcards
(7 cards)
Where does the femoral nerve derive? what does it innervate
L2-4
-iliopsoas, quadriceps
Where does the obturator nerve derive? what does it innervate?
L2-4
- 80% of adductor magnus (the distal end is innervated by sciatic nerve)
what is a cause of neonatal lumbosacral plexopathies? infantile?
very rare
- traction injuries after breech delivery
very rare
- posterior dislocation of hip
- sacral fractures
- flexion-abduction injury to hip
- hyperextension of thigh with fracture to pelvis
what is the prognosis of pediatric lumbosacral plexopathies?
generally complete recovery over months to years
what does the sacral portion of the L/S plexus innervate?
- posterior thigh and buttocks muscles
- gluteus minimums/medius
- medial and lateral hamstring
- entire lower leg musculature
how does testosterone affect physical strength?
- increases muscle strength
- more stable ligamentous structure
how to estrogen affect elasticity of structures?
- increased mobility in joints
