M2 Design Methodologies Flashcards
(8 cards)
REMEMBER
There is prescriptive method to layout design and it is often the variance that comes from using different methods that results innovative design.
‘breaking the mold’ essentially means using different approach or methodologies to arrive at a different design solution.
Ultimately, all designers work towards specific goals and several methodologies have been developed for use in design, whether the ultimate aim is to produce a magazine spread or a chair.
Featured below are various methodologies that can be used as a starting framework for producing a design. (9)
- User-centric Design
- Python Philosophy
- TIMTOWDI
- Lateral thinking
- KISS
- Occams
- Axiomatic design
- Top down
- Bottom UP
places the need, desires and limitations of the user at the center of every stage of the design process.
User-centric design
Derived form the computer programming, the main points of this approach were presented by developer Tim Peters in the Zen of python
Python Philosophy
There is more than one way to do it. follows the belief that a problem may have several different, but equally valid solutions.
TIMTOWDI
Is a design approach that looks to change concepts and perception in order to arrive in order to arrive at different solutions by looking for what is not immediately obvious and solutions that may not be obtainable using traditional step-by-step logic.
Lateral thinking
highlights the fact that simplicity is a desirable objective in producing effective design
KISS (keep it simple, stupid)
