(32 cards)

Left in the Battalion vehicle for use by the FAST unit
The IC must be able to
Recognize and try to prevent situations in which members may become lost, trapped or distressed
Implement a tactical plan to manage the emergency incident
Provide support for the FAST Group & call for additional resources
When the FAST unit is put to work who does the IC need to notify
IC needs to immediately notify the dispatcher that the FAST unit is being put to work and request a replacement FAST unit. The IC shall transmit a 10-66 if necessary.
When the FAST unit is put to work and the dispatcher has even notified what else must the IC do

Safety team
IC considerations
- Have the FAST unit provide additional egress routes while still maintaining unit integrity. Ex: remove window bars, place portable ladders, etc….
- Special call additional FAST units if necessary
- At extended operations the IC shall consider the relieving of the FAST unit. Once the replacement FAST unit arrives at the ICP the FAST unit being relieved may be redeployed.
Upon transmission of a mayday or urgent the IC shall
- Prior to acknowledging the mayday or urgent transmission pause momentarily to obtain the transmitting members internal radio ID code which may be obtained from either the Battalion HT or FAST radio.
- Additionally the identity of the member transmitting the message should be verified by the member assigned to monitor the EFAS
- Gain control of the HT and direct all non essential HT traffice to cease
The IC must ensure once a mayday or urgent has been given that all operating units
Continue fire suppression efforts
The IC must also confer with the ________regarding a plan of action
FAST unit
The IC must also coordinate
EMS resources with the medical group supervisor/branch director
The IC must also consult with
NYPD supervisor for police escort to hospital if necessary
Whenever possible a ________ shall be assigned to supervise the rescue effort.
Chief officer
The IC may consider the use of what HT channel to be used by the FAST group if the necessary resources are available
Channel 16
The IC shall consider the use of the _________ checklist to assist in managing the incident
MAYDAY checklist
When the situation requiring the transmission of the Mayday has been resolved who does the IC need to notify?
Dispatcher and
All units on the scene
When a mayday/urgent transmission has been received for a member in distress try and determine the
Identity
Assignment
Last known location of the member
Before assigning the FAST unit
What should the IC do if they are unable to determine the identity of the member transmitting the mayday or urgent
A roll call shall be conducted
If contact is made with the distressed member have them describe
Where they entered the building and/or their last recognizable reference point
Any visible clues such as light, proximity to fire, smoke conditions, colors and types of flooring around them, etc
What sounds they are hearing
Obtain as much information as possible from the member before instructing them to
Activate their PASS alarm. In addition have the member activate their HT Emergency Alert Button, if this was not activated when they transmitted the mayday/urgent
The activation the the EAB on their HT will increase the output
from 2 to 5 watts. It will also produce a set if beacon tones on the effected members HT. Be advised the beacon tones take priority over received audio. That is the HT transmitting the emergency will cut off incoming transmissions to the member in distress to sound the beacon tones at regular intervals (every 4 seconds)
The activation of the PASS alarm may make it difficult for the distressed member to hear incoming transmissions. Advise the member to
Keep the remote microphone close enough to continue to monitor HT messages
If unable to contact the member and/or the location of the member in unknown consider instituting the following procedures
- The emergency alert tone
- Use of feedback assisted rescue
- Conduct a team search with the search rope
