Syndrome
increase with infant’s gestational
age [ Term + post-term]
- Clinical: Meconium Aspiration
Syndrome
Green amniotic fluid - Respiratory distress within first hours
of life. - Tachypnoea, gasping , cyanotic in
severely affected infants
Meconium Aspiration Syndrome prognosis
**The condition usually improves within 72 h. , however
sometimes it require assisted ventilation.
Severe affected neonates at high risk of mortality
Meconium Aspiration Syndrome Complication
increase risk for PPH = persistent pulmonary
hypertension
Meconium Aspiration Syndrome Management
- Aminofusion [isotonic saline
umbilical cord compression ]
to dilute meconium and prevent - During delivery , after the head is delivered → suctioning oropharynx
(not routinely done) before delivering the rest of the body - After delivering the body → laryngoscopy (not routinely done)
- usually, the condition improves within 72h. but sometimes we need
Endotracheal intubation
Fetal Alcohol syndrome
- Smooth philtrum
- Thin upper lip
- Microcephaly
ddx of green amniotic fluid
meconium aspiration syndrom
and chorioamniotis
differntiate by ECG
if abnormal;meconium AS ,
if normal
chorioamnionitis
