- First thing to be done
✓Suction mouth and Nose [ NOT
mouth and trachea/oropharynx ]
✓Then Clump & Cut the umbilical Cord
✓Then “ Place on mom’s Chest” = Golden hour
✓Physical Examination & Eye Care
✓APGAR Score
how many times we should do apgar score
Should be

[at 1 minute
and 5th minute
after birth
each letter of APGAR score stands for ?
A-appearance
P-pulse
G-grimace
A-activity
R- respiration
Appearance scores
0- blue all over
1-blue only at extremities
2- no blue coloration
pulse scoring
0-no pulse
1-<100 BPM
2->100 BPM
grimace scoring
0- no response to stimulation
1-grimace or feeble cry when stimulated
2-sneezing,coghing,pulling away when stimulated
activity scoring
0-no movement
1-some movement
2- active movement
respiration scoring
0-no breathing
1-weak,slow of irregular breathing
2-strong cry
severity according the score
0-3: severely depressed
4-6: moderately depressed
7-10: excellent condition
All newborn after delivery should be given Vitamin( …… )Why ?
** Vitamin K
*- Newborn cannot produce it - Breastmilk has low Vitamin k level - otherwise → Hemorrhagic disease of the newborn
what we should give newborn after delivery ?

Hepatitis B Vaccine
* Eye Drops (Erythromycin) to prevent neonatal conjunctivitis
* Vitamin D Soon after birth 400 IU/day
