Caput Succedaneum location
*between skin and aponeurosis
fluid accumulation (most superficial one
**crosses the suture line
Subgaleal hematoma location
- between periosteum and aponeurosis
**crosses the suture line
Cephalohematoma location
*deepest one
*between skull and periosteum
*does not cross the suture line
Caput succedaneum etiology and treatment
*Vacuum Assisted delivery
between skin and aponeurosis
fluid accumulation
*treatment :No Treatment is needed (self resolution )
*normal HCT
Subgaleal Hematoma etiology and treatment
- Rupture of emissary veins
between periosteum and aponeurosis
*Tx: volume resuscitation
with packed RBCs,
Fresh frozen plasma
Subgaleal Hematoma presentation
most dangerous ,serious
Emergency , Low Hct
tachycardia
spongy feeling scalp
head circumference rabidly increases
20-50 % loss of blood volume
Cephalohematoma etiology and treatment
- Forceps assisted delivery ( facial nerve palsy as AE)
Subperiosteal bleeding
Usually with Jaundice – measure bilirubin - Tx:rezolve by it self
weeks to months(2 weeks to 3 months )
