Antidepressants

A

Used to reduce depressive symptoms by taking the opposite action of antimanics. The theory is that abnormally low levels of monamines cause depression. These drugs act to increase the production and transmission of various monoamines

Examples

Tricyclics (Elavil)

MAOIs (Nardil)

SSRIs (prozac, zoloft, Paxil)
