Memory Flashcards
(10 cards)
Give an overview of what is happening in LTP
- AMPA open immediately, NMDA have to depolarize first for Mg2+ block to release
- Ca+ –> CaM –> CaMKII
- CaMKII phosphorylates - CREB, AMPA receptor, tarp
- more actin created –> bigger spine
What brain region is associated with imagination? What if it’s damaged?
Orbitofrontal cortex - relaity neurons
damged in OFC –> spontaneous confabulation (disorted reality)
How you tell whether it is amnesia or spontaneous confabulation?
continuous recognition task
What are the regions in the ciruit of papez?
Anterior thalamus, cingulate gyrus, fornix, hypothalamus, mamillary body, hippocampus, entorhinal cortex
How is the circuit of papez in this unit?
Links retrospection and prospection with current needs
How is the precuneous involved in this unit?
It is involved in prospection and spatial memory
What brain regions are associated with implicit (nondeclarative memories)?
thalamus, globus pallidus, cerebellum, substantia nigra, subthalamic nucleus, striatum (caudate nucleus, putamen),
What brain regions are associated with explicit (declarative) memories?
hippocampus, perirhinal cortex, parahippocampal gyrus, entorhinal cortex, subiculum
Where are place and grid cells?
place - hippocampus
grid - entorhinal cortex
What is a method used to detect neurogenesis in the hippocampus?
Immunofluorescence - using antibody directed against a proteins that is exclusively expressed in immature neurons
