Data that is self-reported by the participant themselves, usually through written questionnaires. A participant would complete it, then send it back to the researcher.

A
Questions that allow the participant to answer on any way they choose. They produce qualitative data in word form.

Yes. They enable the researchers to collect rich and detailed responses, and the participants are not constrained by set responses.
