Mitosis Flashcards

(16 cards)

1
Q

What is Mitosis?

A
  • Cell Division (division of nucleus)
    For the purpose of:
  • growth
  • repair
  • replacement

Q

What is Binary Fission?

A

Division of bacterium cells
- Bacterium copies DNA
- Each copy moves to either end of cell (DNA seperation)
- Cell splits into two identical cells

Q

Prophase

A
  • Preparing to divide
  • chromosomes condense + become visible
  • centrioles and spindle fibres form
  • nucleus membrane disintegrates

Q

Metaphase

A
  • chromosome line up in the Middle of the cell (equator)
  • spindle fibres attach to the chromosomes

Q

Anaphase

A
  • chromosomes move Away from each other
  • centrioles use the spindle fibres to drag the chromosomes away from the centre of the cell

Q

Telophase/Cytokinesis

A
  • Two new cells form, nucleus membrane forms and is visible
  • the nuclear envelope reforms
  • cells seperate altogether
