Origins of the Modern Olympics
-Pierre de Coubertin founded the modern Olympic Games
-He took inspiration from other games such as the Ancient Olympics, The Much Wenlock games, and Public schools
-The first Olympic games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896
Cotswold Games
-The Cotswold games were an earlier part of the 17th century, a time where fairs and festivals were a big part of English countryside tradition
-Robert Dover established the Cotswold Games in 1612, and it included activities such as hare coursing, horse racing, shin kicking, and wrestling
Much Wenlock Games
-Dr. Penny Brookes believed in the importance of promoting “moral, physical, and intellectual improvements of inhabitants of a town” through encouraging outside recreation and giving out prizes for physical endeavour
-The first Much Wenlock Games were held in 1850 and large prizes were given out for winners every year
Olympic games
1.To promote physical development and moral integrity
2. To spread Olympic values across the world and international good will
3. To bring athletes from all across the world to compete in a 4 yearly sporting festival
4. To educate younger generations

- Friendships - Promoting friendly behaviours in sporting competitions and bringing people and nations together
- Equality- Every nation should get an equal chance to compete
- Respect- Respect every countries, culture, and individual and for them to play in accordance to the rules
British Olympics association
-BOA supplies delegates to the National Olympic committee
-They are responsible for the GB Olympic team participation and allocates sponsors to athletes
International Olympics Committee
-The IOC owns the rights to the Olympic Rings and the Games
-They are also responsible for selecting the best athletes and manage the commercialisation of the games
Paralympics
-The Paralympics originated as a sporting competition for WW2 veterans and began in 1960 Rome
-In 1976 Toronto, other disability groups were added to the Paralympics to compete
Paralympic values
- Determination- Preservation to succeed despite physical and mental obstacles
- Inspiration- To be motivated by the achievements and actions of others
- Courage- to have self-belief and confidence to perform in the games
-Equality- to show respect to everyone around us
