Why did large amounts of Irish immigrants come to the U.S. in 1840?
To escape the Irish Potato Famine which caused scared amounts of food and disease.
Why did many German immigrants come to the U.S.?
Many were inspired by the First Amendment’s religious freedom, and for economic reasons like finding work.
What was the Know-Nothing Party?
They were a political organization, and they were against foreigners/immigrants. They believed in making it difficult for foreigners to become citizens and hold office

Nativists are people who oppose immigration.

Tenements are poorly designed houses or apartments that held many people for immigrants who lived in the city

A community that forms a perfect society
