Q

myotactic reflex

A

is a muscle contraction in response to stretching within the muscle

When a muscle spindle is stretched an impulse is immediately sent to the spinal cord and a response to contract the muscle is received. Since the impulse only has to go to the spinal cord and back, not all the way to the brain, it is a very quick impulse

Q

dystonia

A

is a neurological movement disorder, in which sustained muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures.[1] The movements may resemble a tremor. Dystonia is often initiated or worsened by voluntary movements

16
Q

reflexes with lesions in cerebellum and basal ganglia

A

no change

may be sluggish

17
Q

to grade a reflex as 4 you must try

A

reinforcement

18
Q

reflex w/ lesion at muscle

A

no change unless end stage

19
Q

reflex w/ lesion at NMJ

A

normal–>decreased

20
Q

reflex w/ lesion at peripheral nerve

21
Q

reflex w/ lesion at root

22
Q

reflex w/ lesion at spinal cord & brain

A

usually increased unless the gray matter (anterior horn cells, lower motor neurons) is damaged right at reflex level

23
Q

where do upper motor neurons (corticobulbar & corticospinal) decussate

A

cervicomedullary junction

24
Q

where do UMN descend spinal cord

A

lateral funiculus

25
proximal fx (vs distal fx) have
bilateral control
26
damage to sensory nerve fibers and reflexes
decrease reflexes by damaging afferent limb
27
muscle disease location
mostly proximal
28
muscle disease reflexes affected
only late
29
basal ganglia affects
muscle tone, postures, patterned movement
