Muscle testing Flashcards

1
Q

muscle screening

A

-quick overview of pt. muscle strength
-rapid assessment of muscle groups
helps identify potential areas of deficit that need to be assessed further

Q

MMT

A

-systematic method to ensure results are muscle specific and as accurate as possible
-positioning in relation to gravity an important for proper grading

Q

strength assessment screen

A

-screen for muscle group strength
gros
preformed as isometric contraction in mid range
limited use

Q

possible findings of muscle screening

A

-normal: strong no pain
-strong and painful: minor contractile tissue (strain/tendonitis)
-weak and painful: more severe problem contractile tissue-partial tear and tendonitis
-weak and painless: complete mm tear/nerve involvement

Q

grading for MMT

A

0=no observable/palpable contraction
1/5=observe/palpate contraction- no joint motion
2/5=full ROM in GM position
3/5=full ROM in AG position
4/5=full ROM AG with moderate resistance
5/5= normal full ROM with max resistance

Q

procedure for MMT

A

start AG
-stabilize proximally
-observe the range and palpate muscle
-apply resistance distal to the joint
-observe for compenstations

Q

MMT break test

A

-examiner applies resistance against pt body part and increases resistance until the pt is overcome by examiner

Or
-max resistance is applied for 5 seconds
-resistance is applied at the end of the gravity resisted ROM with the force perpendicular to the distal end of the segment being tested
