Q

Explain an action potential…

A

Resting cell membrane (polarised) > protein outside the cell and Sodium inside > Sodium channels open, allowing sodium to enter the cell (depolarisation) > A reverse in electrical potential > Sodium channels close and Potassium channels open (repolarisation)

Q

What is myelin?

A

Electrical tape insulating an axon that prevents Sodium dissipating out of the cell during an action potential.

Q

What is myelin sheath?

A

Degrades damage and reduces axon conduction when Myelin is attacked by the immune system.
