What is a town centre mixed development?

A
  • areas with mixed land use e.g, residential and commercial and leisure
  • developments planned by local councils to attract people back to the city centre
  • example in Newcastle Trinity Square was built due to a limited range of facilities and includes supermarkets, offices and uni accommodation including 35 rental units

Cultural and heritage quarters?

A
  • areas that focus on the history and culture of the area
  • aim to attract visitors via museums and galleries etc.
  • creates jobs for locals
  • example is Southampton cultural quater with sea life museum that generates 300 direct jobs and 750,000 visitors

A
  • areas with high security with fences and cctv as well as guards in suburban areas of large cities
  • designed to be a safe haven for families but are divisive as only rich can access them
  • common in NEEs such as South Africa and can cause social segregation

  • can cause social segregation and push out locals
