olividar is transitive, so it always needs one of these…
a direct object–you can’t just “forget” you need to “forget something”

Olvidarse is especially good for describing something you forgot to do, but because it is intransitive it should be followed by ______
the preposition ‘de’
I forgot to put the alarm on.
Me olvidé de poner la alarma.

I forgot to buy flowers. (or rather the buying of the flowers was forgotten to me)
Se me olvidó comprar flores (a mí). (Note: Is singular because “comprar” the action is singular)
I forgot the keys. (or rather, the keys were forgotten to me).
Se me olvidaron las llaves (a mí). (Note keys is plural so we use olvidaron.)
He forgot his briefcase.
