Oncology Flashcards
(23 cards)
What is the MST and one year survival rate for dogs with mesothelioma ?
MST 195 days , 1 year survival rate 22%
Neoplastic cells are detected in the CSF of what percentage of dogs with CNS histiocytic sarcoma?
52%
How does duration of time seizure free and survival time differ in dogs with brain tumours receiving radiation therapy versus medical management alone?
duration of seizure freedom and survival time longer in dogs with brain tumors treated with radiotherapy (seizure free: 24m, survival 34.6m) than medical management (seizure free 1m, survival 6m)
What MRI findings are associated with higher tumour grade in dogs with peripheral nerve sheath tumours?
Large volume and severe peripheral contrast enhancement
What factors were associated with increased chance of a splenic nodule being found to be malignant on histopath post splenectomy? (JAAHA Paper)
What factors may increase likelihood of a splenic nodule being cytologically important? In what percentage of cases does FNA cytology provide a clinically relevant diagnosis? (JVIM paper)
JAAHA - Being a beagle or a small breed terrier and presenting with haemabdomen (and small breed terriers more likely to present with haemabdomen)
JVIM- multiple targetoid lesions, nodukle 1-2cm and peritoneal ff
- FNA cytology gave clinically relevant dx in 20% cases
What percentage of dogs had partial response and what percentage had stable disease while receiving toceranib for bladder tumour? Monitoring of what biochemical parameters is recommended?
6.7% partial response, 80% SD. Monitor renal parameters
What percentage of dogs with histocytic sarcoma developed neutropenia after ACNU administration and when was the neutorphil nadir?
73% , nadir 7 days
what furosemide dose is appropriate for use alongside cyclophosphamide to reduce risk of sterile hemorrhagic cystitis?
1mg/kg (yields a similar incidence of SHC than using a higher dose)
when screening patients for mast cell tumour metastasis, cytology findings from which organ may be predictive of likelihood of positive or negative cytology from which other organ?
Spleen cytology predictive of liver cytology
expression of what is higher in neoplastic mast cells from neutered animals compared to entire?
LH receptors
what percentage of solitary neoplastic liver masses were correctly diagnosed on cytology prior to surgical excision for histo?
18.9%
what factors are associated with worse prognosis in dogs with high grade MCTs and local LN metastasis managed by aggressive local and systemic therapy?
Dogs with ulcerated tumours, recurrent tumours or tumours on the head had worse outcomes despite aggressive therapy
a 2 week protocol of which 3 chemo drugs repeated for at least 3 cycles is associated with a response rate of 38% and complete reponse rate of 19% in dogs with relapsed multicentric lymphoma?
MOC (melphalan, vincristine, cytarabine)
what is associated with worse prognosis in dogs with digital squamous cell carcinoma?
Being a dark-coated schnauzer, multiple digits affected , duration clinical signs at presentation > 90d, regional LN metastasis
which B cell malignancy is generally associated with a poor prognosis?
Canine Burkitt-Like Lymphoma
What may be useful as markers of specific feline mamamry carcinoma subtypes?
Leptin and leptin receptor levels
What treatment of canine aortic body tumours produced a clinical benefit rate (defined by CR/PR/ stable dz >10 weeks) with a MST that wasn’t significantly different ocmpared to when adjunctive treatments used?
Toceranib (MST 478d vs 521d with other treatments added in too)
CNS lymphona with a B cell phenotype is most common in which location in cats?
Optic chiasm
how may IHC allow differentiation of a GIST (GI stromal tumour) from a GI smooth muscle tumour (e.g. leiomyosarcoma)?
GIST- express C-kit (CD-117), smooth mm tumours typically express alpha-smooth muscle actin but are negative for c-kit
what is the MST of primary pulmonary histocytic sarcoma tx with sx and chemo?
374 days
what is the most common cause of lymphocytosis >6000 in cats
CD4+ cell lymphocytosis
how do bone marrow blast percentages aid dx of chronic myeloid leukaemia vs acute ML vs erythroid leukaemia?
CML - <20% myeloblasts (NB MDS will also be fitting with this…)
AML >20% myeloblasts
EL - >30% erythrythroblasts
how should diagnosis of lymphangiosarcoma be made?
based on histology NOT cytology (cytology may just look like mild inflammation ) - histo can be hard to distinguish from hamenagiosarcoma, but lack of erythrocytes in the vascular spaces may support LSA over HSA. IHC stains such as prospers-related homeobox gene 1 have been used to confirm dx in dogs and cats.
