Osteomyelitis: Nursing Interventions
Improve physical mobility
- Restrict activity
- ROM exercises
- Encourage full participation in ADLs within the physical limitations to promote general well-being
Osteomyelitis: Nursing Interventions
Control the infectious process
- Monitor the patient’s response to antibiotic therapy
- Observe the IV access site for evidence of phlebitis, infection, and infiltration
- If surgery is necessary, take measures to ensure adequate circulation
(wound suction to prevent fluid accumulation, elevation of the area to promote venous drainage, avoidance of pressure on grafted area)
- Change dressing using aseptic technique
- High protein and vitamin diet
- Adequate hydration
