Oxygen therapy Flashcards
(19 cards)
who needs oxygen therapy
pt recovering from surgery, sedated, respiratory illness, pt with secretions, cardiac pt
what are the early stages of hypoxia?
pt restless and confused, axious (RR, BP, HR slightly elevated)
What occurs in chronic hypoxia?
clubbing, peripheral edema, right sided heart failure, O2 sat. below 87%,
what occurs in late stages of hypoxia?
hypotension, bradycardia, and metabolic cyanosis
Lacted ringer solution is?
isotonic
when do u use LR?
restoring fluid volume, burns, trauma, surgery, and dehydration
what is FiO2
fraction of inspired oxygen (amount of O2 pt is inhaling (room or oxygen delivery device)
what is the normal % of FiOe on room air?
21%
who uses a simple mask?
pt who require mod. flow for short period of time
when to use nonrebreather mask?
to deliver high flows rates and high concentrations of O2
which mask has a reservoir bag?
rebreather mask
which mask allows almost a 100% O2 concentration?
which mask is mostly used for COPD pt?
venturi mask
can a humidifer be used with a venturi mask?
not really
when do we use a venturi mask?
pt critically ill and need specific amount of O2
which face mask can O2 concentration NOT be controlled?
face tent
tracheostomy mask must always been?
humidified
CPAP machine is used for?
sleep apnea (positive pressure keeps airway open)
Pt with COPD have a risk of getting?
hypercapnia (high CO2)
