When should you request clearance prior to departure from a CTAF?
When the en-route LSALT is within controlled airspace
What information is provided to approach control when not identified?
DME or GNSS distance from airport
VOR radial, GNSS track, compass quadrant or STAR designator
Assigned level
Flight conditions if appropriate
ATIS Identifier
What are the requirements of a step climb?
Lower aircraft – report approaching each assigned level in the sequence
Higher aircraft – after hearing lower aircraft report, report the last vacated level
What are the requirements of a step descent?
Higher aircraft – report approaching assigned level in the sequence
Lower aircraft – after hearing higher aircraft report, report the last vacated level
What does standard rate climb/descent mean?
Not less than 500ft/min except the last 1000ft which must be done at 500ft/min
What is the requirement for IFR aircraft where ATC approval is not required prior to changing level?
Report position and intention approximately 1min prior to making change
What LSALT should be used?
The highest grid MORA falling within the are covered by the determined navigation error
For RNP 2 specification – the area to be considered is 5nm surrounding the departure point, destination point and either side of the nominal track
What levels comprise RVSM airspace and what equipment is required prior to entry?
FL290 to FL410 inclusive
Two independent primary altimeters
Mode C capable SSR Transponder
Altitude Alert System
Autopilot with Height Lock
