What forecasts must be obtained prior to flight?
Airports:
Departure
Destination
Alternate
Route:
Above 10,000 – SIGWX
Below 10,000 - GAF
Wind/Temp Forecast
Exception – Part 121 operator may depart without a forecast if:
Satisfied weather at departure airport will permit a safe return
up to 1 hour after departure
Forecast for route, destination and alternate within 30min of
departure
No destination forecast – must plan on an alternate
What is the required forecast validity period?
30 min prior to ETA
60min after ETA
When must a weather update be obtained?
If the weather forecast were obtained during preflight more than 1 hour prior to the EOBT, an update must be obtained and reviewed prior to each departure
What is the requirement when a new COBT is obtained after receipt of airways clearance?
Notify ATC of new COBT when requesting pushback or taxi
What is the COBT compliance window and expected delays due non-compliance?
Arrivals at SYD, BNE, MEL, PER COBT -5min to +15min
Departures from PER COBT -5min to +10min
Early non-compliant – 60min holding
Late non-compliant – published traffic holding
What are the requirements when issued a waypoint crossing time?
Adjust speed to meet allocated time
Cross the waypoint on time or up to 30sec early
Cross the waypoint at the lesser of 250kt or profile speed
Notify ATC as early as possible if unable
