Pacific - General Flight Procedures Flashcards
(13 cards)
What are the IFR altimeter tolerances?
Must read within 60ft
If 2 altimeters required for category of operation and one reads in excess of 60ft but within 75ft the flight to the first point of landing is permitted where a second check can be performed – if error in excess of 60ft on the subsequent check then the altimeter is considered unserviceable
Any altimeter with error in excess of 75ft is considered unserviceable
What is the VMC criteria above 10,000ft for class A, C, E and G?
Visibility 8km
1000ft vertically from cloud
1500m laterally from cloud
What is the VMC criteria at and below 10,000ft for class A, C, E and G?
Visibility 5000m
1000ft vertically from cloud
1500m laterally from cloud
What is the VMC criteria in class G at or below the higher of 3000ft AMSL or 1000ft AGL?
Visibility 5000m
Clear of cloud
In sight of ground/water
What is the VMC criteria in class D?
Visibility 5000m
500ft vertically below cloud
1000ft vertically above cloud
600m laterally from cloud
What is the procedure to avoid high vertical rate encounters?
Reduce the vertical rate to 1500ft/min during the last 1000ft of climb or descent where aircraft are at an adjacent level
What is the procedure and when are you permitted to initiate a strategic lateral offset (SLOP)?
Permitted in oceanic controlled airspace only
Enroute phase of flight only
Must regain route centreline prior to entering CTA from OCA
Offset RIGHT up to 2nm in 1\10th nm increments
Aircraft must have automatic offset tracking capability
Clearance is not required:
If identified – notify ATC prior to initiation of changes to offset
If not identified – no notification is required
When is MINIMUM FUEL declared?
Committed to land at specific airport
Any change to clearance may result in landing with less than fixed fuel reserve
It is not an emergency state but notifies ATC that emergency fuel state may result from changes to clearance
Priority handling should not be expected
ATC endeavour to provide delay advice and notify subsequent controllers
When is MAY DAY FUEL declared?
Useable fuel remaining at landing at nearest aerodrome where safe landing can be made is predicted to be less than the fixed reserve
If a normal approach and landing is expected by the PIC, use the phraseology “EXPECTING NORMAL APPROACH AND LANDING, EMERGENCY SERVICES NOT REQUIRED”
