Q

What is the separation minima for landing?

A

Landing aircraft is not permitted to cross the threshold until:

    Preceding Departing Aircraft is
Airborne and commenced a turn, or
Airborne and beyond a point on the runway where the
landing aircraft would be expected to stop and sufficient
distance to manoeuvre safely in event of missed approach

    Preceding Arriving Aircraft
        Vacated and taxiing away

    Crossing Aircraft
Crossed and clear, or stopped short

Q

What is the procedure for a go around from a visual approach?

Climb along runway track, remain visual and await instructions
If unable to clear obstacles, the aircraft is permitted to turn
Some locations e.g. Sydney have specific instructions to follow the instrument procedure missed approach

Q

What are the recommended CTAF broadcasts traffic dependent?

A

Intending to enter runway - just prior to entry

Ready to join circuit - just prior to joining

Intention to make a straight in approach - by 3nm established on final

Intention to join on base - prior to joining base

During Instrument Approach:
Passing the FAF/established on final approach segment
Terminating approach/commencing missed approach (including
position and intentions)

Clear of active runways - once vacated

Commenced a turn
If runway greater than 1800m, departing aircraft airborne
and at least 1800m ahead

Q

What are the requirements for an IFR departure in class G?

A

Depart by extending a leg of the circuit

Do not turn opposite to circuit direction until clear of circuit area and no traffic conflict exists (normally 3nm but depending upon ability to climb above the circuit height and clear of traffic

Intercept departure track as soon as practical but prior to 5nm

Once on departure track and clear of traffic, provide ATS with departure report

Q

What is the format of a departure report in class G (non-surveillance)?

A

Notify ATC of intention to provide departure report with “Departure” and await response, thence:
Departed [Location] [Time]
Tracking (to intercept) [Track]
Climbing [Intended Cruise Level]
Estimating [First reporting point] AT (time)
