1
Q

What is an element?

A

An element is a material of nature listed in the periodic table with a unique group of letters and they are made up of all the same atoms.

2
Q

What is a conductor?

A

A conductor allows heat to go through it

3
Q

What are objects that absorb and pass heat on quickly called?

A

Objects that absorb and pass on heat are called conductors

4
Q

What are objects that do not absorb heat very well and take a very long time to get hot?

A

Items that do not absorb heat very well and take a very long time to get hot are called insulators.

5
Q

Are most metals conductors or insulators?

A

Most metals are conductors (including lead)

6
Q

What do particles do when they get hot and what does this mean for solids?

A

Particles vibrate when they get hot. The vibrations pass from one particle to the other. In a solid particles are closer together, meaning the heat travels faster.

7
Q

When particles are given more energy (are heated) they vibrate more. What does this mean for volume and mass?

A

This means that they take up more volume but still have the same mass.

8
Q

Which material will rise above the other; less dense or more dense

A

When something is less dense it rises above more dense materials.

9
Q

What does a material need to be less dense?

A

For something to be less dense it either needs to be lighter or take up a bigger volume.

10
Q

What does radiation refer to?

A

Radiation refers to infrared radiation {heat}

11
Q

Can infrared radiation travel through a vortex? Why?

A

Yes, because it doesn’t need any particles to travel.

12
Q

How does infrared radiation affect the earth?

A

The earth is heated by the sun with infrared radiation

13
Q

14
