PDF Flashcards
What is a PDF?
The portable document format, better known as PDF, transcends the boundaries of operating systems, devices, and software applications. This integral file format maintains document integrity and ensures seamless information exchange. Developed by Adobe Systems in the early 1990s, PDF was a response to the growing need for a standard format to preserve the layout and content of documents, regardless of the platform used to view them.
What is the difference between PDF/A and PDF?
PDF A differs from PDF by prohibiting features unsuitable for long-term archiving, such as font linking instead of font embedding and encryption.
PDF allows you to make documents accessible to people with disabilities, in line with the guidelines for accessible document design. These features include text-to-speech compatibility, which allows visually impaired users to listen to the content of a PDF.
